There are places where running becomes more than a sport. And Val d’Aran is one of them. Among centuries-old forests, high mountain trails, alpine lakes and picturesque Pyrenean villages, the valley has rightfully earned a privileged place in trail running across Europe.

During the summer months, thousands of runners arrive in the valley’s mountains seeking elevation gain, nature, and races that offer a truly different experience. From explosive races to ultras exceeding 100 kilometers, the valley’s sports calendar features some of the most spectacular competitions in the Pyrenees.

At Dynamic Hotels we experience this sporting atmosphere up close. Our hotels in Val d’Aran welcome runners, cyclists, and mountain enthusiasts each season who visit the Pyrenees to compete, train, or simply enjoy days surrounded by nature.

We present the best races in the area: a brief tour of events that allow you to discover Val d’Aran from a unique perspective, running among some of the most impressive landscapes in the Pyrenees.

Corsa des 15 Pòbles, running between historic mountain villages

Corsa e Caminada des 15 Pòbles is one of the most popular and traditional races in Val d’Aran. It was born with the goal of recovering ancient historic trails that connected the Pyrenean villages of the valley.

The course allows you to discover the most beautiful corners of the region, crossing rural trails, forests and small mountain villages full of charm. It combines competition and community spirit, as it also includes walking options for those who prefer to enjoy the surroundings at a more relaxed pace.

Infinite Race Val d’Aran, the craziest and most unique race in the Pyrenees

Infinite Race Val d’Aran has become one of the most original and different proposals in the Pyrenean sports calendar. Held in Salardú, it features a format designed to push runners’ physical and mental endurance to the limit.

The star of the event is the Backyard Ultra format, an increasingly popular discipline worldwide. Participants must complete a 6.7-kilometer circuit every hour, always starting on the hour. The challenge continues until only one runner is able to complete one more lap.

The event also includes a popular 6.7-kilometer race and walk, perfect for those who want to enjoy the atmosphere without facing the extreme challenge of the Backyard Ultra.

Vertical Aran, an explosive climb to the summit of Montcorbison

Vertical Aran is one of the most intense races in the mountain calendar. A short but demanding challenge: 1,200 meters of elevation gain in just 4 kilometers to reach the summit of Montcorbison.

Starting from the center of Vielha, the course offers no respite from the first meters. Trails, mountain tracks and cross-country sections lead to the 2,170-meter peak of Montcorbison, one of the valley’s most emblematic mountains and a privileged vantage point over much of the Aranese Pyrenees.

It features different categories for all profiles: vertical race for experienced runners, popular walking ascent and family hike from Bassa d’Oles, allowing experienced athletes and families to enjoy the event’s atmosphere.

Aran Trail Runners, a community to discover Val d’Aran by running

Not all trail running experiences in Val d’Aran revolve around competition. In recent years, initiatives like Aran Trail Runners have successfully created a true community of runners and mountain enthusiasts who share routes, training sessions and sporting days in some of the valley’s most spectacular landscapes.

Through their Social Run events, they organize open outings for all levels with courses that combine sport, nature and good atmosphere. Routes depart from Vielha and traverse trails adapted for both regular runners and those who simply want to enjoy trail running in a more relaxed way.

These gatherings perfectly reflect the outdoor spirit of Val d’Aran. Beyond race bibs and competition, the valley has become an ideal place to train, discover new trails and share kilometers surrounded by mountains.
