When some of the travelers staying at our hotels in Vielha ask us about family-friendly routes around Val d’Aran, they are usually looking for relatively easy outings, beautiful scenery, and peaceful plans that allow them to enjoy nature without having to do long walks.

Around Vielha and throughout the valley there are endless paths and trails for all levels. From high-mountain routes for those looking for more demanding excursions to much more accessible walks to discover forests, waterfalls, villages, and some of the most beautiful landscapes in the Pyrenees at a relaxed pace.

We wanted to put together this short guide focused on some of the most recommended easy routes to enjoy as a family near Vielha, especially during spring and the warmer months.

Artiga de Lin and Uelhs deth Joèu, One of the Valley’s Must-Do Outings

If there is one easy outing that practically everyone recommends in Val d’Aran, it is Uelhs deth Joèu, in Artiga de Lin.

The setting is spectacular even for those who are not used to the mountains. You will find green meadows, huge rock walls, waterfalls, and one of those landscapes that make the Pyrenees one of the most beautiful corners of Catalonia.

Access is very easy and the walk to the main waterfall can comfortably be done with the youngest members of the family.

Baricauba Forest, Perfect for Walking with Children

Very close to Vielha is Baricauba Forest, one of those peaceful places that families looking for a simple plan surrounded by nature tend to love. In fact, we always recommend it when someone asks us what to do in Vielha.

The paths are wide, comfortable, and almost flat, making it a very pleasant option for walking with small children or simply unwinding for a few hours surrounded by woodland.

The area has a great deal of charm thanks to the green of the trees and the peaceful atmosphere that fills the whole setting.

Pla de Beret, Nature and Easy Walks

Although many people associate Pla de Beret only with skiing, the truth is that during the warmer months it transforms completely.

The area offers very easy paths, open landscapes, and perfect routes for walking without difficulty while enjoying some of the most beautiful views in the valley.

It is a particularly recommended place for families who want to spend a peaceful day, have a picnic, or simply enjoy the mountains without having to take on long or technical routes.

Montgarri, an Easy Outing with Plenty of Charm

The route to Montgarri is another of the most popular outings for those looking for a simple walk that is highly rewarding visually.

The route can be done on foot or even by bike and allows you to discover one of the most magnetic corners of Val d’Aran.

The small sanctuary of Montgarri, surrounded by mountains and nature, turns the outing into a perfect family plan.

Bassa d’Oles, a Classic Spot to Unwind near Vielha

Just a few minutes by car from Vielha lies Bassa d’Oles, one of those places where many families take the opportunity to spend a peaceful morning surrounded by nature.

The small lake, the easy paths, and the picnic areas make this a very convenient plan for those traveling with children or simply looking for a relaxed outing without complications.

The views of the still-snowy mountains during the first warmer months make the setting especially beautiful at many times of year.
